THEATRE BACKGROUND

With over 40 year’s experience in both professional and community Theatre, covering most aspects of Theatre production, as a performer, Director, Stage Manager and set and costume designer, Lindsey has also been teaching the Art form within adult Drama Groups and for children, in both special needs and mainstream education, throughout the past 40 years.

She carries with her the fabulous training given by professional actors, directors and practitioners, as a young person, as well as the wonderful opportunity obtained by performing with the National Youth Theatre for 4 years from the age of 14 years old, working with professional directors, playwrights and production teams, after which she set up her own Saturday Morning Drama Club for kids as well as performing and directing a range of Theatre work in strange and beautiful places in and around London.

Her Directing debut was ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat’ 30 years ago, followed by ‘Godspell’ and then ‘Chicago’, all interspersed with writing, directing, as well as performing in, a range of Murder Mystery Evenings as well! Lindsey has performed roles as diverse as ‘The Wicked Witch of the West’ at 14 years old, and after appearing as a ‘Hot Box Girl’ in ‘Guys and Dolls’ took on the role of Tracy Samantha Lord in ‘High Society’ followed by Maire Chatach in Brian Friel’s ‘Translations’ and Natasha in ‘Three Sisters’.

After moving up here, she played Ruth in ‘Entertaining Angels’ and Maxine in ‘Stepping Out’ amongst others and more recently directed ‘Time and the Conways’ and the heart-warming ‘Lilies on the Land’ for the Bear Pit in 2018. She then took a re-devised version of the latter, as ‘The Forgotten Army’ around local clubs, performing it finally at the RSC’s Swan Theatre.

Her passion for the Theatre runs high and she is eager to continue to share that passion with others in the hope it will enhance their enjoyment of Theatre Practice and Performance.

THERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR & LIFE COACH

Working with performance arts students for many years, and finding they needed a safe space to talk their problems through at the same time as learning, led Lindsey to train and qualify as a Counsellor, before training others in the same field. She then also took her work into special needs education, followed by, as an Educational Consultant, leading INSET days for local councils, offering teachers more creative ways of working with gifted children and children with special needs. Further Education called and she found herself leading ‘assertiveness’ and ‘citizenship’ sessions for creative, talented, but previously disengaged, young people in East London.

As an Equal Opportunities Officer and Trainer within the Civil Service, time was given to travelling nationwide in order to train colleagues and run anti-harassment, stress awareness and assertiveness skills workshops, more recently offering those workshops to local women’s organisations.

Therapy groups came from those workshops, as it was apparent there was the need for individuals to meet, share and receive support in smaller and more focussed groups.

Lindsey is determined that everyone should have a voice and be heard; that no-one should be bullied or discriminated against or made to feel ‘small’ in any situation, and hopes that through her work, individuals of any age can feel confident, empowered and more able to become who they truly hope to be. And she is happy to work within Educational establishments or the workplace, running workshops and support groups where appropriate.
